It is with great pleasure that ARENA (Sports Handling Agent &
Event Organiser in Cyprus) is now in the position to announce two
exciting new running events to take advantage of the spectacular
trails in the AKAMAS National Reserve Park, in the beautiful resort
of Paphos and of course the all year round warm weather conditions
on the island of Cyprus.
The events to be organised in partnership with 209 events-company
of the famous runner and ex London marathon winner Mike Gratton
- and with the support of "Runners World" magazine in
the UK, have been planned carefully having in mind the recreational
and competitive runners alike, who wish to run an out of the norm
race, sip in the beauty of nature and experience the adventure racing
phenomenon, without exposing though their bodies to the dangers
of extreme adventure racing.
AKAMAS peninsular, in the resort of Paphos, being a national reserve
park, is a development free zone. Access in the park is all through
loose surface trails and the only form of building you will find
is the little bamboo made hut on the exotic Bay of Lara, which serves
as an information point for the Careta Careta Turtle Conservation
Project -endangered turtle species of the Mediterranean - that chooses
this sandy bay to lay its eggs.
The combination of flat & steep trails, and the wild beauty
of the AKAMAS area have enabled Mike and his team after running,
cycling and driving the area to choose some spectacular trails,
leading to beautiful secluded villages of the area where time stopped
a few decades ago, through some heavily forested areas with amazing
views to the skyline where sky & sea become one.
Further more the small city of Paphos, enriched with a wide array
of archaeological sites, is easily accessible by bus from the Coral
Bay and is the place where you can find restaurants, shops, bars
and other entertainment options to cater for all tastes and ages.
